Show MoreI have been tasked with writing this 1000 word essay on the importance of accountability of sensitive items within the military. The reason I have been assigned to do this task is due to my failure of being attentive and securing my weapon and having it with me at all time. I failed by leaving my M9 Berretta at home in my safe before I left in support of the Boston Marathon. I was told by certain individuals to leave it at home, but I failed as an NCO to ask my section leader on how to properly secure my weapon. I did what I thought was best and left it to at home limit the amount of time I traveled with it. In doing so was wrong, if anything would have happened to that weapon there would have be severe consequences that not only myself…show more content…
In the military regardless of what branch you are, it is instilled in our heads that our weapon is the most valuable thing you will ever have. You train with it, you eat with it, you sleep with it, you use is to protect yourself and your battle buddies and you take care of it like it was your child. In the end it becomes a part of you and you cannot foresee yourself without it. Your weapon is considered a sensitive item because if it ends up in the enemies’ possession, it could possibly be used against you and your comrades. Keeping track of where your weapon is or having it on you at all times will help prevent any of that happening. An so I forget the value of my weapon and what it means to me. Always having your sensitive items is very important and I should have treated my weapon as one of those. Instead I chose to leave in my safe thinking it was just another items that I needed to bring. Compared to the active army side the very smallest punishment for misplacing a weapon, if it's found within a reasonable amount of time, is a "Company Grade Article 15." That means you can lose one grade of rank, a week of pay, and two weeks of extra duty. If that's all you lost, you got off very, very lightly. More often, and especially if you lose your weapon in a combat zone, you're looking at a "Field Grade Article 15" if your chain of command is feeling very generous. You would risk losing at least one or as many as three grades of rank (E-4
This is my 2500 word essay about responsibility and keeping accountability of my personal equiptment. Responsibility the state or fact of being accountable or to blame for something. Personal responsibility is demonstrating your follow-through initiative and a personal commitment to being accountable to your personal belongings. Being responsible in the US Army has got to be of the utmost importance in my opinion. Being unrespossible of your property can lead to a secrurity breach or worse. Soldiers must be and act responsibly in every situation they may find themselves in, whether it’s in or out of uniform. Forgetting my wallet at work is a good example of not being resposible of my personal belongings.
My wallet is a very important part of being in the military. If i forget my wallet somewhere were people can get it. Its basically like handing my life over to them. It has badges and such to get into secure compounds. It has my bank cards which they could then get into my finances, a call roster which has over 70 names and number to which would lead to people being prank called and so on and so forth. My wallet also has my driver license so people can know my name and where i live. There are thing people dont think about when they have there wallet on them but when they lose, forget, or leave it somewhere it can cause mayhem inside your company to make sure there isent a security breach.
Being a well maintained soldier is your duty and responsibility to yourself, your crew, your platoon, your company, and your unit. Dangers can come if you are not responsible of your things. If there was a security breach into a secret building could be catastrophic to the security of the united states. If you do forget your wallet or equiptment you should tell someone as soon as possible so you dont put your crew or anyone in danger. As a junior enlisted soldier you have very minimal responsibility such as taking care of yourself and your equiptment such as all items issued to him weather it be a weapon, NVG’s, clothes, a vehicle, or some TA-50. If you dont take care of these items you can be subjected to an article 15 under UCMJ law. The NCO’s responsibility is to make sure that the soldier is accountable for the items and has eyes on these items when needed, so that he can report it to his higher command. Accountability also includes the most important piece of equipment the soldier him or herself. Anything can and will happen especially in combat, that’s why the team member should make sure that the team or squad leader know where the soldier and his or her equipment is at all times.
The Army spends a lot of money on equipment and belongings for the soldiers, so the Army expects to know where its equipment is. No matter what someone is always responsible for equipment in the Army. It goes to the highest officer to the lowest enlisted personal in the chain of command and back up again. Responsibility and accountability are two of the main factors in being a successful soldier in today’s Army. There are many good examples of responsibility in a normal workday. Soldiers need to be responsible for their actions. It is very important to be responsible when working in the aviation field of the United States army.
If you damage or find something damaged or wrong with the aircraft such as a drive shaft or push pull tube. being responsible would mean you would tell someone right away or write it up in the aircraft maintainance book. which shows each and everything that is wrong with the aircraft. which then the maintainers would come in the next day and fix whatever needed to be fixed on that aircraft. Being responsible as a maintainer would include doing maintainance by the book. Replacing what needs to be replaced in such a manner that the crew flying on that aircraft shouldnt have to worry about the maintainance after it is done.
